Lekhnath Dahal accuses government of growing intolerance against critics

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Lekhnath Dahal has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of insulting and belittling lawmaker Prabhu Shah during a parliamentary session.

Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor on Sunday, Dahal alleged that the prime minister dismissed Shah’s written question, submitted four days earlier, by responding with counter-questions instead of a proper answer.

Dahal emphasized that all lawmakers have the right to question the prime minister, as per parliamentary rules, and that the person holding the prime ministerial position should respond in a dignified manner.

However, he claimed that Shah was not even allowed to challenge the prime minister’s response, indicating increasing authoritarian tendencies within the government.

He also criticized the government for implementing provisions of the Social Media Regulation Bill even before its passage in Parliament, arguing that this reflects the administration’s growing control over public discourse.

During Sunday’s parliamentary Q&A session, PM Oli reportedly refrained from directly addressing Prabhu Shah’s question.
