Election Commission authorizes 31 institutions to observe House of Representatives election

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has granted permission to 31 institutions to observe the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives.

According to the Commission, approval has been given to 27 national and four international institutions to carry out election observation.

The Commission had called for applications on October 28 11 from national and international organizations interested in observing the House of Representatives election. In response, applications were received from 44 national and five international institutions.

Election Commission Joint Secretary and spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the decision to authorize the observers was made after assessing whether the applicant institutions met the criteria and procedures outlined in the Election Observation Guidelines, 2022.

“Institutions that fulfilled the required standards and processes specified in the election observation guidelines have been granted permission to observe the election,” Bhattarai said.

He added that organizations which failed to submit complete documentation as required by the guidelines have been asked to provide the remaining documents within five days. The Commission will take further decisions regarding those institutions once the requested documents are received.

The Election Commission has reiterated that election observation plays a vital role in enhancing transparency, credibility, and public trust in the electoral process. Both national and international observers are expected to monitor polling, vote counting, and other election-related activities in accordance with the guidelines set by the Commission.
