PM Karki: Young generation wants accountable and corruption-free governance

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has attended the celebration marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Australia on Saturday.

Speaking at the event organised by the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu, the Prime Minister highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two countries, grounded in mutual respect, sustainable friendship, and shared democratic values. She conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the government and people of Nepal to the people of Australia.

Referring to the recent Gen-Z movement, PM Karki said Nepal is moving forward with renewed determination in its democratic journey. “The movement clearly showed that our young generation wants accountable, responsible, and corruption-free governance. My government is committed to fulfilling these expectations, and we are preparing for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21,” she said.

She expressed gratitude for Australia’s friendship, development cooperation, and support towards Nepal’s democratic and inclusive transformation.

PM Karki also noted that Nepal–Australia relations have steadily strengthened since the establishment of formal ties, with longstanding cooperation in education, trade, development, and culture.

She highlighted that thousands of Nepali students pursuing higher education in Australia continue to contribute to both nations.

She also acknowledged the nearly 200,000 Nepalis living in Australia, describing them as a vibrant bridge deepening the connection between the two countries.

The Prime Minister welcomed growing investment and emerging opportunities for collaboration in tourism, technology, and renewable energy.

She also thanked Ambassador Leanne Johnston for her contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, noting that her dedication has helped advance mutual understanding and cooperation between Nepal and Australia.
