KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma are set to submit the signatures collected in support of their demand for a special general convention to the acting party president, Purna Bahadur Khadka, this afternoon.
According to party sources, Thapa will hand over the signatures to Khadka at 3 p.m. at the party’s central office in Sanepa.
The campaign claims that over 54 percent of the delegates from the party’s 14th General Convention have signed the petition. Out of 4,743 representatives from the 14th convention, after excluding automatic representatives from the 13th convention, those who have left the party, and deceased members, 4,556 representatives remain valid. Among them, 2,487 delegates are said to have endorsed the demand for a special convention.
Both Thapa and Sharma have been urging the party to hold a special general convention if the regular 15th General Convention cannot be conducted by the end of 2025.
