Regular hand washing helps reduce malnutrition: Vice President Yadav

KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has emphasized that hygiene is the foundation of good health and that regular hand washing plays a vital role in reducing malnutrition, preventing health complications, and controlling the spread of diseases.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day 2025, Vice President Yadav expressed confidence that this day will raise awareness about hygiene and health, and inspire people to adopt the simple yet effective habit of hand washing as part of their daily routine.

In a message to Nepalis at home and abroad, he wished for a clean, safe, and healthy life for all. He noted that consistent handwashing not only lowers the risk of various infections but also offers social benefits, economic savings, and long-term health security.

“The true significance of Global Handwashing Day is realized only when we make handwashing an integral part of our lives,” he said. “Let us all commit to hygiene and health, practice regular handwashing, and actively contribute to building a healthier society.”

Vice President Yadav highlighted that handwashing is a simple, inexpensive, and highly effective way to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, colds, and pneumonia.

He stressed the importance of washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, cleaning between fingers and under nails, and maintaining this practice after preparing food, before eating, after using the toilet, and after coughing, sneezing, or touching the face. He added that this not only improves personal health but also contributes to a disease-free community.
