Industry Ministry urges smooth supply of essential goods



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has assured that there will be no shortage of daily essentials and petroleum products.

In a statement issued today, the ministry urged the public not to unnecessarily stockpile goods and stressed that measures are being taken to prevent any adverse impact on demand, supply, and prices.

It said effective market monitoring will be carried out, and action will be taken against those disrupting the supply chain or violating consumer rights.

The ministry also announced that, starting today, 153 fair-price shops have been opened nationwide through the Food Management and Trading Company Limited and the Salt Trading Corporation in view of the upcoming festivals.

Amid the current situation and the damage caused to government and private infrastructures, the ministry also held discussions with private sector representatives today. According to Joint Secretary and spokesperson Jitendra Basnet, the meeting decided to prepare a consolidated report on the arson, vandalism, and damages that have occurred in the industrial, trade, and supply sectors.
