Damaged structures to be repainted before Dashain

KATHMANDU: Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising has announced that buildings damaged by arson will be repainted before Dashain.

Addressing the ministry after assuming office today, he said immediate repainting will be carried out, followed by the management of essential items such as furniture.

Minister Ghising added that a special fund will be set up to advance reconstruction efforts, with appeals to Nepalis both at home and abroad for contributions.

“Last week’s arson during the Gen-Z protests has made reconstruction necessary, but mobilizing resources is the main challenge. To send a message that we can rebuild our own infrastructure, we will also seek support from various partners,” he said, adding that a draft plan will be prepared within a week to move reconstruction forward.

Ghising further stated that eliminating corruption, ensuring good governance, and maintaining law and order remain major challenges, but require collective effort to resolve.

Meanwhile, Secretary Gopal Sigdel said the ministry will assess infrastructure damage and coordinate with local and provincial governments for reconstruction.
