Postmortem completed on 28 bodies of Gen-Z protest victims at TU Teaching Hospital

KATHMANDU: The forensic department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, has completed autopsies on 28 bodies of individuals who lost their lives during the recent Gen-Z protests.

According to Dr. Gopal Chaudhary, head of the forensic unit, the hospital has so far received 46 bodies for examination. Of these, 23 have already been identified and handed over to relatives, while seven remain unidentifiable and will require DNA testing for confirmation. In such cases, dental records and fingerprint analysis are also used to aid identification.

“The bodies show signs of gunshot wounds, burns, and blunt force injuries. We are continuing autopsies as directed by official referrals,” Dr. Chaudhary said.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, visited the hospital on Monday to meet with families of the deceased as well as the injured. The hospital currently has 22 people undergoing treatment from the clashes.
