Minister Ghising to donate salary and perks to fund for Gen-Z movement martyrs

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Energy, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has announced that he will donate all his ministerial salary, allowances, and perks to a fund established in the name of those who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement.

Speaking after assuming office at Singha Durbar on Monday, Ghising said he had taken on the role under extraordinary circumstances and therefore did not wish to personally benefit from it.

“The salary, allowances, and facilities I am entitled to as a minister will all go to the fund in memory of the martyrs of the Gen-Z movement,” Ghising said.

He further clarified that apart from security arrangements and official housing, both of which he said were unavoidable due to security concerns, he would not accept any additional government privileges.

Ghising, who rose to prominence during his tenure as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, has been entrusted with the portfolios of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development in Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s interim cabinet.
