210 judges transferred simultaneously

KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council has simultaneously transferred 210 judges, including those serving in the district and high courts.

In a meeting held on Friday, the Council decided on the mass transfer, which also includes significant changes in the Special Court. The Chairperson of the Special Court, Teknaran Kunwar, has been transferred to the High Court in Janakpur.

Along with Kunwar, four other members of the Special Court have also been reassigned. Tej Narayan Singh Rai has been transferred to the High Court in Pokhara, while Ram Bahadur Thapa has been posted to the Rajbiraj Bench of the High Court, Janakpur.

Murari Babu Shrestha has also been transferred to the High Court in Janakpur, and Ritendra Thapa has been sent to the Birgunj Bench of the same high court.

These changes come as all five judges have completed their two-year tenure at the Special Court. With their transfer, only Bidur Koirala, who had left the Special Court a year ago, remains associated with it.

Following the transfer of Chairperson Kunwar and other members, the Judicial Council is preparing to appoint Sudarshan Dev Bhatta, currently a judge at the Patan High Court, as the new Chairperson of the Special Court.
