Maoist Chair Dahal urges local levels to adopt agriculture suited to their soil

BHAKTAPUR: Chairman of the Maoist Center and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that to make Nepal self-reliant in agriculture, local levels across the country should adopt agricultural systems suited to their soil and environment.

Speaking at a program in Bhaktapur today, Chairman Dahal said all local levels should draw lessons from the Avocado Campaign conducted in Changunarayan.

“Seven hundred and fifty-three local levels across the country should learn from the success of the Avocado City Campaign in Changunarayan. If each local level cultivates agricultural products, including fruits, suited to their soil, the country can become self-reliant in agriculture,” he said.

Chairman Dahal emphasized that the country’s prosperity depends on developing a self-reliant national economy with a unique model.

Noting that many youths have recently started working in groups with the mindset of “let’s do something in the country, let’s become self-reliant,” he said, “The tendency to imitate foreigners is unfortunate.

Everyone should take initiative and encourage local employment. If we work together, achieving self-reliance will not take long.”

Expressing concern over the growing trend of going abroad and imitating foreign models instead of creating original economic systems, he said the challenge today is the lack of pride in Nepal’s culture, language, and heritage.

Chairman Dahal highlighted the country’s immense potential in natural resources, agriculture, tourism, energy, and other sectors, stating that with creative efforts and a positive mindset, Nepal’s development is within reach.

He urged discouraging the culture of going abroad, which would generate employment and boost productivity domestically, stressing that everyone should contribute to building a new Nepal.
