China in talks with India to resume direct flights

BEIJING: China has been in close contact with India to push for the early resumption of direct flights between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday.

Responding to reports that flights could restart as early as next month and that Indian airlines have been told to prepare for short-notice operations, Lin said restoring services would facilitate travel, exchanges, and cooperation between the nations, which together have a population of over 2.8 billion.

Commenting on the broader relationship, Lin described China and India as “partners helping each other succeed,” calling cooperation between the “dragon and the elephant” the right choice for two major developing countries and key members of the Global South.

He said China was ready to work with India to implement understandings reached between their leaders, build political trust, expand cooperation, manage differences constructively, and coordinate closely on multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to advance stable, long-term ties.
