DAMAULI: With water sources in the forest depleting, wildlife has begun venturing closer to human settlements in Tanahu. In response, the Division Forest Office has constructed ponds to provide water for wildlife and help reduce conflicts.
Under its human-wildlife conflict management program, the office built ponds in eight community forests across the district.
Forest Officer Kashiraj Pandit stated that during the last fiscal year, ponds were constructed in Siddhabatasan Community Forest (Myagde Rural Municipality-3), Amdanda Mohoriya Community Forest (Devghat Rural Municipality-4), Janshakti Community Forest (Rishing Rural Municipality-3), Barahaseni Community Forest (Ward No. 4, Rishing Rural Municipality), Tara Community Forest (Shuklagandaki Municipality-2), Siddhathan Community Forest (Bandipur Rural Municipality-2), and Masuregaira Community Forest (Bhimad Municipality-4).
He added that each community forest received Rs. 100,000 for pond construction. Additionally, a recharge pond was built in Bagishwari Community Forest (Bhanu Municipality-9) at a cost of Rs. 100,000.
