KATHMANDU: The death toll from the Bhotekoshi river flood has reached 1,365 across several districts, according to authorities.
The highest number of bodies has been recovered in Chitwan, with 363, followed by Nawalparasi East with 226, Nawalparasi West with 222, Nuwakot with 197, Rasuwa with 174, Gorkha with 75, Dhading with 70 and Tanahun with 38.
Authorities have so far buried 1,147 bodies after collecting DNA samples and completing the required identification procedures to ensure their safe preservation.
As part of efforts to identify the victims, forensic teams have collected 2,698 DNA samples, including 1,286 from the victims and 1,412 from their relatives. Details of 1,310 unidentified bodies have also been made public through the official Nepal Police website.
Search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas. A total of 7,975 police personnel have been mobilized to assist with relief distribution, recover bodies and search for people who remain missing.
According to authorities, 4,077 people are still unaccounted for, while 3,030 displaced survivors are currently staying at temporary holding centers in different districts.
