KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Shiva Nepali on Tuesday raised serious questions in Parliament about the role of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and other controversial ministers in ongoing corruption and human trafficking scandals, accusing the government of shielding tainted officials to preserve its leadership.
Speaking during the House of Representatives session, MP Nepali said, “We keep speaking, and the government keeps ignoring us. This is not governance — it’s arrogance.”
His remarks were directed at the government’s inaction on long-standing allegations.
He referred to the recent resignation of Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Rajkumar Gupta, who stepped down following a leaked audio scandal implicating him in a bribe deal, and demanded a deeper investigation.
“A mere resignation is not enough. There must be a thorough probe into Gupta’s involvement in the bribery case,” he said.
Nepali also linked Home Minister Lekhak directly or indirectly to human trafficking operations allegedly conducted via the Department of Immigration under the guise of ‘visit visas.’
“When will the Home Minister’s moral compass awaken?” he said.
Highlighting the government’s continued silence despite RSP raising the issue for 49 consecutive days, Nepali called the inaction a “shocking display of irresponsibility.”
He also criticized the lack of urgency in providing rescue and relief after the recent Bhotekoshi floods, urging the government to activate disaster response mechanisms immediately.
Although he reaffirmed RSP’s commitment to keeping the door open for dialogue to maintain parliamentary operations, Nepali warned that the party will continue its protests if the government fails to act. Following his speech, the RSP walked out of the session in symbolic protest.
