International Judo Championship from Thursday



KATHMANDU: The 7th International Judo Championship is to be jointly organized under the aegis of the Nepal Confederation of Sports (NECOS) and National Judo Association.

A total of 250 athletes from different district clubs of Nepal, Bhutan and Thailand would participate in the tournament beginning from Thursday, it was shared at a press conference here today.

According to Association President Dharma Kumar Shrestha, under-21 players will compete in 12 men’s and 11 women’s events.

Final matches of 11 tournaments will be held on April 17 and of 12 tournaments on April 18.

The first para judo competition will also be organized jointly by NECOS and Judo Association and Nepal Deaf and Blind Para Judo Association.

The men’s under-60 kg category and the women’s under-52 kg category will be played.

Shrestha said that the athletes will be selected from this competition to participate in the Deaf Olympics to be held in Japan in November.

The matches of the two-day tournament will be held at the Multipurpose Martial Arts Centre in Khusibu, Kathmandu.

Austria’s Sabrina Filzmoser, who played four Olympics from 2008 to 2020 and won two bronze medals at the World Judo Championships, was also present at the press conference.
