Brother kills 11-year-old sister under drug influence, dumps body in water tank

KATHMANDU: A 15-year-old boy has confessed to killing his 11-year-old sister in Lalitpur while under the influence of drugs, according to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.

The tragic incident occurred in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-12, Mangalbazar, in a rented house formerly occupied by the Bohora family.

The family had vacated the house on Falgun 25, but the girl had been missing since Chaitra 4. Her decomposed body was later discovered in the water tank of that same house.

Police identified the victim as Durga Bohora, daughter of Madan and Bhagwati Bohora from Surma Rural Municipality-4, Bajhang, who had been living in Mangalbazar.

After Durga went missing, her mother filed a report at the District Police Office, prompting a search operation.

On Chaitra 29, police found her body inside a water tank on the ground floor of a house owned by Baburaja Awale, located in Khapinche, Lalitpur-9. The investigation led to the arrest of Durga’s brother, who admitted to the murder.

CCTV footage showed the siblings heading toward their previous residence on the day she went missing.

During police questioning, the brother said they had gone to retrieve forgotten clothes, but a dispute arose, and he ended up strangling her with a nylon rope under the influence of drugs.

He further confessed that after realizing what he had done the next morning, he returned to the scene, saw her dead body, and placed it in the water tank, covering it with a cement lid before fleeing.

The discovery was made after a new tenant who moved into the house on Chaitra 2 noticed a foul smell and opened the water tank, prompting them to alert the police.

According to SP Angur GC of the Crime Investigation Office, both the siblings had taken drug tablets before the incident, and the brother claimed he committed the crime while intoxicated.

Police have taken the minor into custody, and further investigation is underway.
