Deuba calls Nepali Congress Central Committee meeting

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee.

The meeting has been scheduled for Baisakh 17 (April 30) at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

General Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel issued a notice on Tuesday, urging all office bearers, members, and invited members of the Central Working Committee to attend the meeting.

Dissatisfaction has been growing within the party over the coalition government led by CPN-UML.

Leaders such as Dr. Shekhar Koirala and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa have been sharply criticizing the government, calling it slow and ineffective.

Amid such criticism, Deuba met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. Deuba is reportedly aiming to become prime minister again through the same coalition within the next year.

Meanwhile, the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Centre), has also stated that the current government has failed and has expressed support for forming a new government under Nepali Congress leadership.

The Central Committee meeting comes at a time when Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) has hinted at a potential change in the government.

The meeting is expected to formally review the government’s performance and the Congress-UML alliance.
