Middlemen have gained access to PM’s bedroom: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has raised serious concerns over the growing influence of middlemen in the country’s leadership and economy.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thapa said the nation’s economic woes are being exacerbated by the undue involvement of intermediaries.

“There is a difference between the private sector and middlemen,” he said. “The current crisis in our economy is the result of interference by middlemen. I’m not pointing fingers at any particular prime minister—but the fact is, middlemen have gained access all the way to the Prime Minister’s bedroom. They have infiltrated the very core of our leadership.”

Thapa further expressed disappointment over the apparent normalization of such interference, citing the recent discussions surrounding the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor.

“In the past, there were debates on who the next governor should be—based on merit or affiliation,” he said. “But now, we’ve come to a point where the candidacy of a known middleman is openly being discussed. That’s deeply troubling.”
