Government’s pace sluggish: Gagan Thapa

"Country needs momentum, but government is moving at a turtle's pace"

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has expressed disappointment over the government’s inability to meet public expectations, despite the formation of a coalition between the two major political parties.

Speaking at a program organized by the Intellectual Professionals Campaign Council in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thapa said he had hoped that the coalition would bring significant changes to the constitution and accelerate development work. However, he noted that progress has been sluggish.

“We had expected that once the two major parties formed a government together, there would be immediate changes—especially in governance,” Thapa said.

“But what’s unfolding instead is a slow, disjointed process. The country needs momentum, but the government is moving at a turtle’s pace while people expect the speed of a pebble skimming across water.”

Thapa also criticized the leadership for failing to take decisive action. “There are tasks that should have been addressed on a war footing, but even those haven’t been executed properly,” he added.
