KATHMANDU: The Socialist Front, a coalition of leftist parties in Nepal, is gearing up for a large-scale protest rally on March 28 to counter recent royalist activities.

The protest comes in response to former King Gyanendra Shah’s renewed call for a third term as monarch, which has sparked concerns among republican forces.

Ahead of the planned rally, the Socialist Front held a consultation meeting with intellectuals and civil society leaders at Hotel Himalaya in Kupandol. The meeting aimed to consolidate support and discuss strategies to counter what they see as an alarming resurgence of royalist sentiments.

The Front, composed of the CPN (Maoist Center) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (Unified Socialist) led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav), and the Nepal Samajwadi Party led by Mahendra Raya Yadav, has expressed concerns over the increasing activities of royalist groups.

Socialist leaders described the recent movements as an attempt to destabilize the federal democratic republican system. They reiterated their commitment to defending the republican values established after years of political struggle.

The Front is scheduled to hold a press conference later today to announce further details about the protest rally. Leaders of the coalition emphasized the importance of mass mobilization to reaffirm Nepal’s republican identity and safeguard the achievements of past political movements.
