KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa Magar, along with a team of officials, conducted a surprise monitoring visit at Bhaktapur Hospital on Friday.
The hospital, declared the best among provincial hospitals, was assessed for its service operations and management.
The inspection team included Provincial Assembly member Suresh Shrestha, Bagmati Province Health Secretary Dr. Sumitra Gautam, and Bhaktapur Hospital Management and Operations Committee Chairman Shashi Jung Thapa.
During the visit, they inspected the hospital’s laboratory, medical ward, OPD service, pharmacy, building construction site, ICU, and CT scan connection room. The team also interacted with admitted patients to gather feedback on the hospital’s services and facilities.
Following the monitoring, Minister Thapa Magar issued a stern warning, stating that employees who do not perform up to standards would be transferred to any of the provincial hospitals across the 13 districts under the province.
The minister also announced upcoming improvements, including the installation of a mammogram machine and the operation of high-tech eye treatment services.
Additionally, plans to operate heart disease services in Hetauda Hospital and neurology services in Bhaktapur Hospital were revealed. Hospitals with more than 100 beds will be allowed to run nursing classes, while hospitals that fail to meet the required standards will face registration and renewal restrictions.
Health Secretary Dr. Gautam emphasized that Bhaktapur Hospital must utilize its full capacity of 300 beds, warning that failure to do so could lead to a reduction in the number of beds.
She also called for the eviction of the Human Organ Transplant Center, which has been occupying the building for 13 years despite a five-year agreement. Furthermore, she directed that no common drug stores be established within the hospital area.
Provincial Assembly member Suresh Shrestha stressed the importance of maintaining the hospital’s quality services, as it has been recognized as the best provincial hospital for two consecutive years.
Meanwhile, Hospital Management Committee Chairman Shashi Jung Thapa requested assistance from the ministry to increase the number of cabin beds from four to 10. Executive Director Dr. Surendra Bhatta reported that the hospital serves around 1,000 to 1,100 patients daily.
