Surbana Group eyes investment opportunities in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held discussions with a delegation from Surbana Jurong Group, one of Asia’s leading investment organizations, to explore opportunities for expanding investment in Nepal’s infrastructure and urban development.

During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, Sarvana Jurong CEO Sean Chiao expressed the company’s interest in identifying and investing in projects related to energy, tourism, railways, tunnels, smart cities, and expressways.

The Singapore-based firm, a subsidiary of Temasek Holdings—Singapore’s state-owned global investment agency—has already established an office in Nepal and begun preliminary operations.

Oli welcomed the company’s interest and assured that Nepal will provide a favorable investment environment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to attracting reputable international investors.

He highlighted that Singapore’s rapid development serves as an inspiration, and Surbana Jurong’s expertise could play a vital role in Nepal’s progress.

“Nepal needs development, and for that, we need both investment and expertise. We are committed to fostering a government that serves the people and ensures development without corruption,” said Oli.

He further assured that his administration is willing to make necessary legal and structural adjustments to facilitate global investment.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Sushil Gyawali, CEO of the Investment Board Nepal; Su Min, Chief Administrative Officer of Surbana Group; Sher Bahadur Tamang, Chief of the Central Urban Development Department of UML; Abhinash Mishra, South Asia Chief of Surbana Group; and Bilas Koirala, Nepal Chief of Surbana Group, among others.
