President issues ordinance to amend land-related acts

President Ram Chandra Paudel has issued the “Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2025.”

The ordinance was approved on Wednesday, following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with clause (1) of Article 114 of the Constitution.

This comes after the President initially put the ordinance on hold, stating he would study it further.

Rabi Lamichhane secures release after providing bail guarantee

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane was released on bail of Rs 6 million by the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday evening.

The bail was secured after Prabhu Bank provided a guarantee for the required amount, as mandated by District Court Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari.

Had Lamichhane failed to provide the bail or a bank guarantee, he would have been sent to jail for at least a day.

PM highlights importance of effective earthquake preparedness

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need for effective preparedness from all sectors to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters such as earthquakes.

Speaking at the 27th National Earthquake Safety Day event organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Kirtipur, the Prime Minister stated that the integrated settlements rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake have comparatively better safety measures.

He noted the importance of ensuring that such settlements also offer opportunities for employment and income generation and stressed the need for reevaluating strategies to address these concerns in the future.

Advocate Tripathi assaulted by Rabi Lamichhane’s supporters at court premises

Advocate Dinesh Tripathi was assaulted by supporters of Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane at the Kathmandu District Court premises in Babarmahal.

The incident occurred during the ongoing hearing of the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case, in which Lamichhane is accused and currently in custody.

The supporters, reportedly upset with Tripathi’s arguments against Lamichhane, attacked him and raised offensive slogans outside the court.

Socialist Front to hold grand rally in Kathmandu on Jan 29

The Socialist Front has announced plans to organize a grand rally in Kathmandu on January 29, as decided during its meeting at the Unified Socialist Party office in Aloknagar on Wednesday.

Unified Socialist spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma informed that the rally is part of efforts to reinvigorate the Front, which had slowed down due to the busy schedules of its leaders.

The meeting highlighted moving forward with renewed vigor and finalizing a report reviewing the Front’s activities and progress.

NOC increases prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene

Nepal Oil Corporation Limited (NOC) has raised the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene following \a new adjustment based on the purchase price from the Indian Oil Corporation.

Starting from midnight on Wednesday, the price of petrol has increased by Rs 2 per liter, while the prices of diesel and kerosene have each gone up by Rs 3 per liter.

The updated price for first-class petrol now stands at Rs 162.5 50 per liter, up from Rs 160.5.
