KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has expressed strong disapproval over the recent issuance of the “Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2025″ by President Ram Chandra Paudel. Shah accused the ordinance of being a tool to benefit political affiliates.

“Now it seems not just rivers, but even Tundikhel and Khula Manch will be handed over to party cadres under this ordinance,” Shah remarked, expressing his dissatisfaction.

The ordinance was issued on Wednesday following a recommendation from the Council of Ministers during last Friday’s meeting. It was one of five ordinances introduced recently, including others made public earlier in the week.

President Paudel had previously withheld the land ordinance for review. However, it was approved after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli assured that contentious provisions would be addressed.

The ordinance was then signed under Article 114(1) of the Constitution, as confirmed by a statement from the President’s Office.

Shah’s comments, accompanied by photos of leaders Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba, reflect concerns over potential misuse of public spaces and resources under the new provisions.
