Astalaxmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali to step down from UML Central Committee



KATHMANDU: UML Vice Chairs Astalaxmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali have announced that they will resign from their party responsibilities following the conclusion of the party’s 11th General Convention.

Speaking at a Central Committee meeting held prior to the convention, the party’s publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam confirmed that both leaders will not seek any party positions and will step down from their roles.

Shakya and Gyawali were elected as vice chairs during the party’s 10th General Convention and have served in those roles since. During the recent polarization at the general convention, both leaders were reported to have supported Senior Vice Chair Ishwor Pokharel.

Both Gyawali and Shakya have contributed to the Nepali communist movement for over five decades.
