KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has said that his visit to the Seoul AI Smart City Centre in South Korea has strengthened his commitment to advancing Nepal’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
After inspecting the facilities operated by the Seoul AI Foundation, Minister Kharel said the experience highlighted how AI can significantly contribute to Nepal’s economic transformation through information technology. The visit, he added, has provided “renewed energy and motivation” for expanding AI-related initiatives in Nepal.
The Nepali delegation, led by Minister Kharel, observed the AI City, AI Centre, and several ongoing projects in Seoul. “The knowledge gained from Korea’s AI Smart City Centre will help make Nepal’s newly established AI Centre more robust,” he said.
During the trip, Minister Kharel also held discussions with Korean officials and experts on AI’s potential, its benefits for public services, and opportunities for future cooperation. The forum was co-organized by Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).
Minister Kharel traveled to Seoul on November 11 to participate in the 11th Global ICT Leadership Forum, which he described as “valuable and productive” for advancing Digital Nepal and the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
