JANAKPUR: Chief of Madhesh Province, Sumitra Subedi Bhandari, has called for submissions of claims for the post of Chief Minister following the resignation of Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh.
According to a notice issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Province Chief, eligible members of the Provincial Assembly may submit their claims for the post by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The notice states that any Provincial Assembly member commanding a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the Assembly may present their claim.
Earlier on Tuesday, Bhandari approved the resignation tendered by Chief Minister Singh in accordance with Article 169 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Nepal. Singh resigned without seeking a vote of confidence on the final day to do so.
Furthermore, the statement issued by Satrudhan Yadav, Secretary at the Office of the Province Chief, mentioned that as per Article 169 (3) of the Constitution, the current Council of Ministers has been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out the regular business of the Province until further notice.
The Province Chief’s call for new claims has been made in line with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
