Madhesh CM Satish Kumar Singh resigns

KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh announced his resignation from the assembly floor on Tuesday while addressing a session convened to seek a vote of confidence.

In his address before stepping down, Singh sharply criticized the Janamat Party for what he described as persistent non-cooperation and unilateral decisions within the party leadership. He said both the party’s central leadership and its provincial parliamentary head had acted without consultation, undermining the functioning of his government.

Singh also expressed frustration over internal interference during the budget drafting process, alleging that even minor allocations, such as those worth Rs 500,000, were politicized. He claimed that when he raised the issue with Janamat Party Chair Dr. CK Raut, instead of resolving the matter, Raut encouraged those pushing for such allocations.

With Singh’s resignation, the Madhesh provincial government faces another round of political uncertainty, as coalition equations in the province are likely to shift once again.
