Govt fixes new retail price for bottled and jar water

KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has set a maximum retail price for bottled and jar water, one of the most commonly used consumer goods in the country.

As per the new rate, a one-liter bottle of water will cost Rs 16 inside the Kathmandu Valley and Rs 20 outside the Valley, while a 20-liter jar will cost Rs 47 inside the Valley and Rs 60 outside.

Previously, traders had been selling bottled and jar water at arbitrary prices without regulation.

The department has warned that anyone found selling water above the fixed rate will face action under the Consumer Protection Act 2018 and its regulations. It has also urged the public to report any cases of overpricing to the department or its subordinate offices.
