KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has resumed the registration of new writ petitions from today, marking a key step toward restoring regular judicial operations that had been disrupted since the Gen Z movement–related arson attack on September 9.
Following a full bench meeting held on Sunday, the apex court decided to reopen writ registration, a core judicial function that had remained suspended for nearly a month. Until now, the Court had been processing only habeas corpus petitions and other urgent matters.
The decision paves the way for individuals and institutions to once again file constitutional and administrative petitions, an essential mechanism for citizens to seek judicial remedies against government decisions or rights violations.
Regular court proceedings, including hearings and case registrations, had come to a standstill after the Supreme Court’s building was damaged during the protests. Officials said the Court will continue to operate in a limited capacity while repairs and security upgrades are being completed.
