Mahabhir waterfall: A captivating tourist attraction in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: Mahabhir waterfall, located in Temkamaiyung Rural Municipality-4 in Bhojpur, is rapidly becoming a favored destination for tourists.

Thanks to ongoing conservation and development efforts, the waterfall has attracted growing numbers of visitors eager to experience its natural beauty.

Situated near the Mundum trekking area accessible from Chakhewa, the waterfall offers a refreshing retreat for travelers. “With improved road access, tourist flow has significantly increased,” said Ward Chairman Harkaraj Rai of Temkamaiyung-4. The sight of the cascading water, plunging 60 meters from the cliffs, draws dozens of visitors daily.

Chairman Rai shared that a budget of Rs. 800,000 has been allocated this fiscal year for further conservation and development projects. “Mahabhir Waterfall has become an important tourist spot in our ward,” he said. “The area continues to develop and gain popularity among visitors.”

The waterfall sees especially large crowds during the summer and on weekends, with people coming from various regions to enjoy the site year-round.

Chief Administrative Officer Adit Dahal highlighted that alongside road expansion, the rural municipality is building facilities to better accommodate tourists. “Being close to the district headquarters makes this site an attractive destination,” he added.

Rural Municipality Vice-Chairman Ramadevi Rai emphasized ongoing efforts to establish Mahabhir Waterfall as a key tourist hub. She noted that Temkamaiyung’s abundant natural resources and tourism potential are being integrated into future development plans.

Chair Saroj Basnet reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to prioritizing tourism development, including Mahabhir Waterfall. Plans include expanding trekking routes around the waterfall to enhance tourist mobility. Basnet also mentioned efforts to link agriculture and tourism to support the rural municipality’s sustainable economic growth.

Located near the Bhojpur-Chakhewa Mid-Hill Highway, Mahabhir Waterfall is approximately 29 kilometers from the Bhojpur district headquarters, making it easily accessible for visitors.
