U.S. expresses readiness to work with Nepal’s interim govt



KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has welcomed the restoration of calm and a peaceful resolution to last week’s unrest, expressing its readiness to work with Nepal’s interim government in the months ahead as it prepares for new elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Embassy commended President Ram Chandra Paudel and youth leaders for their commitment to a democratic solution, saying, “We continue to mourn with Nepal over its losses.”

The Embassy also recognized the Nepali Army and Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel for their “vital role in restoring order and facilitating a peaceful transition of civilian government.”

Sushila Karki was appointed Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government on Friday.
