Resham Chaudhary quits NUP, announces ‘NUP Nepal’

KATHMANDU: Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), has officially parted ways with the party and announced the formation of a new political outfit—Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal.

Chaudhary made the announcement via a Facebook Live broadcast on Sunday morning. In his address, he confirmed both his departure from the existing NUP and the launch of the new political group.

“Thank you very much for considering me a leader until today. From this moment, I announce that I am no longer with the Nagarik Unmukti Party,” Chaudhary said.

He also disclosed that he had personally borne significant expenses during the party’s formation and development—including covering house rent for some party leaders for three years.

The announcement marks a major shift in the political landscape surrounding NUP and signals Chaudhary’s intent to continue his political journey under a new banner.
