Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu marks 79th Independence Day

KATHMANDU: A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Chancery to mark the 79th Independence Day of Pakistan. Ambassador of Pakistan Abrar H. Hashmi unfurled the national flag on the occasion.

Members of the Pakistani community, Nepali friends, and Embassy officials with their families attended the ceremony. This year, Independence Day was celebrated with the zeal of victory in “Marka-e-Haq.”

In his message, Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan, said that Independence Day is a reminder of the courage, unity, and sacrifices that led to the creation of Pakistan. He added that the entire nation pays homage to the founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the workers of the Pakistan Movement for their struggle and sacrifices.

In his message, Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the past 78 years tell a tale of resilience, strong faith, and hope for a bright future, as the nation bravely faced several difficult challenges.

Despite these challenges, Pakistan achieved significant milestones in every field—from the economy to sports, and from defence to information technology—where Pakistanis, with unparalleled determination and courage, have written exemplary chapters of knowledge and skills.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, in his message, said: “Today, we also celebrate the triumph of Marka-e-Haq, where Pakistan excelled on both military and diplomatic fronts. Our principled and robust response to India’s unlawful actions secured a moral and political victory, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to protect our security.”

He added, “Through military preparedness, diplomatic finesse, and national unity, we have demonstrated our resolve to safeguard sovereignty while upholding global peace. The Kashmir cause remains just, the rights of the Kashmiri people inalienable, and Pakistan’s support for their struggle unshakable until justice prevails.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi paid tribute to the historic struggle of 1947 and the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers. He specifically praised the leadership and the Armed Forces of Pakistan for thwarting Indian aggression in the recent Marka-e-Haq. The Ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and progress, adding that the nation will stand united in the face of any challenge.
