KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Police Range has reported a surge in banking offense cases, with more than half of its registered complaints in the past year linked to such crimes.
According to Range Chief Bishwo Adhikari, out of 12,915 cases registered in the last fiscal year, 6,553 were related to banking offenses. Cases of cooperative fraud, improper transactions, electronic crimes, cybercrime, and intangible property-related offenses have also increased.
On average, the Range registers about 35 cases per day. Cooperative fraud cases rose from 26 in fiscal year 2023/24 to 32 in 2024/25.
Additionally, the police recorded 140 cases of attempted murder during the last fiscal year, Adhikari added.
