Security tightened at Janakpur High Court’s Birgunj Bench after judges harassed inside courtroom

PARSA: Security has been significantly tightened at the temporary bench of the Janakpur High Court in Birgunj after an incident of misconduct targeting sitting judges inside a courtroom.

The Parsa District Police Office has overhauled the security arrangements by replacing all 14 personal security officers (PSOs) assigned to judges, as well as other personnel responsible for courtroom and compound safety.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when three individuals, reportedly affiliated with the CPN (Bahumat), misbehaved with Justices Dr. Khusiprasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan during a session inside the courtroom itself.

The accused — Garbhu Mahato of Golbazar, Siraha; Padam Bahadur Magar of Barhathwa, Sarlahi; and Kishor Kumar of Pyuthan — were immediately arrested from within the court premises.

Gautam Mishra, Chief of Parsa District Police, stated that the suspects were presented before the Parsa District Court on Friday to seek an extension of judicial custody. He said investigations are being carried out under charges of contempt of court, cybercrime, and indecent behavior.

Prior to this incident, each judge had one PSO, and around a dozen security personnel were deployed at the court. Following Thursday’s breach, police presence and surveillance in the court compound have been intensified to ensure the safety of judicial officials and the integrity of court proceedings.
