Monsoon triggers rain; alert issued for possible disruptions



KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that monsoon winds are currently affecting parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki provinces, and a small area in the eastern region of Lumbini Province.

Additionally, westerly and local winds are influencing the weather in western Nepal. According to the Division, the weather remains partly to generally cloudy across the country.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is occurring in some areas of Gandaki Province, a few locations in Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and one or two areas of Karnali Province.

Heavy rain has been reported in a few places in Gandaki, and in isolated areas of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Afternoon Forecast:

Skies are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. There is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in a few hilly areas, particularly in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, and at one or two places elsewhere.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi Province. Light rain or snowfall is also possible in some high hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at isolated spots in other regions.

Tonight’s Forecast:

The weather will remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in many parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, in some areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few locations in the rest of the country.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in a few places in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, and at one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Light rain and snowfall are also likely in some areas of the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in a few other mountainous areas.

The Division has warned that this weather may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, and both road and air transportation. It has urged the public to remain cautious and take necessary precautions to minimize potential impacts.
