PM Oli calls for end to factionalism within NRNA

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to remain united, dignified, and committed to its core purpose, cautioning against internal disputes and personal interests that threaten the organization’s integrity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the NRNA Global Conclave on Tuesday, Prime Minister Oli stressed the need for harmony and higher-level unity within the global Nepali diaspora.

He warned that trends diverging from the founding objectives of the NRNA could undermine its credibility and purpose.

“It is not good to have disputes in such a common organization that should move forward together and united,” Oli said. “The organization cannot function if statutes are amended for individual interests. Let logic and discretion prevail.”

He urged the association to stay rooted in its founding goals — preserving Nepali identity and culture abroad, strengthening mutual recognition among the diaspora, and supporting Nepal’s development.

“Party politics should not be played here,” Oli cautioned, “and attempts to divide the organization will not succeed. The government of Nepal will stand with the NRNA on all legal matters.”

Referring to controversies during the NRNA’s recent general convention, Oli remarked that the incidents did not reflect well on the diaspora and called on members to uphold democratic values and respect legal processes.

He also expressed confidence in the leadership of current NRNA President Dr. Badri KC, emphasizing that his legal tenure is still valid. “The leadership transition must happen through a democratic and lawful process,” he said.

Prime Minister Oli assured that the government is open to suggestions and is ready to consider amendments to existing laws related to non-resident Nepalis.
