KATHMANDU:  As of the end of Chaitra, damage to over 34,000 private houses affected by the Jajarkot earthquake has been recorded.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that detailed damage assessments for 34,035 homes have been entered into its system.

Authority spokesperson and Undersecretary Ram Bahadur KC stated that damage assessments are still ongoing.

With the start of the new year, a new agreement has been signed between NDRRMA and Mid-West University to continue assessing additional earthquake-affected homes.

Under the agreement, Executive Chief of NDRRMA, Engineer Dinesh Bhatt, and Associate Professor Dr. Rajan Suwal, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering at Mid-West University, recently signed the memorandum.

Located in Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, Mid-West University will deploy 85 technical staff to assess the damage to an additional 28,357 homes across remaining local units.

Previously, a similar agreement was made between the Authority and Pulchowk Engineering Campus, under which initial damage assessments were conducted.
