NEPSE sees steady decline, but markets turn green on final day of the week

KATHMANDU: The stock market, which had been continuously declining since Monday of the previous week, continued its downward trend until Tuesday this week.

With only four days of trading, the market ended in the green on Wednesday, the last trading day of the week.

Despite only one positive day, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) dropped by a total of 81.95 points throughout the week. With just four days of trading, the average daily drop was 20.48 points.

The NEPSE index, which stood at 2818.43 points last Thursday, fell to 2736.48 points by Wednesday this week.

The market was closed on Thursday and Friday due to the Holi festival. In total, the market experienced a decline of 2.92% over the four-day period.

The total transaction value for the week amounted to 35.1 billion rupees, with an average daily transaction of 8.77 billion rupees.

A total of 76,322,246 shares were traded over the course of the week, averaging 19,909,561 shares per day. In the four days of trading, 370,770 shares were exchanged, with an average of 92,692 shares traded daily.

Market overview

Sunday: The market opened the week with a drop of 46.33 points, closing at 2772.10 points. The NEPSE fell by 1.64% that day, with a fluctuation of 55 points.

The index reached a high of 2819.92 points and a low of 2766.08 points. Despite the drop, trading volume remained normal, with 2,722,283 shares worth 10.94 billion rupees traded 112,347 times. A total of 315 companies participated in the market.

Monday: The downward trend continued, with the NEPSE falling by 20.68 points, closing at 2751.42 points.

The market fluctuated by 54 points, dropping by 0.74%. The index hit a high of 2791 points and a low of 2743.65 points.

On Monday, 150,094,915 shares worth 8.37 billion rupees were traded 87,156 times, involving 311 companies.

Tuesday: The market continued its decline with the NEPSE falling by 32.21 points, closing at 2719.20 points. This marked a 1.17% drop, with a fluctuation of 50 points.

The index ranged from a high of 2762.25 points to a low of 2712.74 points. Trading activity remained stable, with 15,559,583 shares worth 8.39 billion rupees traded 92,031 times. A total of 303 companies participated.

Wednesday: After three consecutive days of decline, the market ended the week on a positive note.

The NEPSE rose by 17.28 points, closing at 2736.48 points. This represented a 0.63% increase, with a fluctuation of 48 points.

On Wednesday, the index reached a high of 2745.58 points and a low of 2717.29 points. Despite the rise, trading volume remained steady, with 29,241,365 shares worth 8.23 billion rupees exchanged 79,236 times. A total of 323 companies traded on this day.
