Man arrested for assaulting elderly pedestrian in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: A man who assaulted an elderly pedestrian in frail physical condition on the Ring Road near Chappal Karkhana in Kathmandu has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred when the man stepped out of his jeep and repeatedly punched the elderly man, allegedly after accusing him of using abusive language. The assault was captured on video and widely circulated on social media on Monday, drawing public outrage and mounting pressure on authorities.

In the viral footage, the middle-aged driver of a jeep bearing registration number Ba 3 Cha 1103 is seen verbally abusing and physically attacking the elderly pedestrian. A woman accompanying the driver was also heard shouting at the victim.

Following the incident, traffic police apprehended the suspect.

Spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai, confirmed that the individual involved in assaulting the pedestrian has been taken under control for further investigation.
