Sindhuli to host sports festival from Feb 17

SINDHULI: The District Sports Development Committee of Sindhuli is set to organize its sports festival from 17 to 25 February, 2025.

Chairman of the Committee, Bir Bahadur Thing Tamang, shared that the primary goal of the event is to foster a sense of unity through sports and support the growth of local athletes and sports development.

The committee anticipates that the sports festival will contribute to the overall development of the district, enhance its sports profile, and establish its identity in the sports community, he said.

Chairman Tamang emphasized the need for sustainable player management, saying, “While significant budgets are allocated to sports every year at the local level, retaining players has been a challenge. Our focus is now on ensuring sustainable support for players, not just training.”

The festival will feature 10 sports: volleyball, football, cricket, badminton, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo, athletics, marathon running, and boxing.

Participation is limited to athletes under the age of 35 from Sindhuli district. To ensure the safety of participants, an insurance of Rs 100,000 will be provided in case of injury.

A total of 1,343 athletes from various municipalities and rural municipalities, including 200 from Kamalamai Municipality, 175 from Dudhauli Municipality, and others, will compete in the festival.
