President Paudel hopes Maghe Sankranti fosters a cultured society

President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed confidence that the Maghe Sankranti festival would inspire one and all to develop a civilized, cultured and equitable society by preserving nature and culture.

In a message today on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, the President has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad for their happiness, peace and prosperity.

Different communities celebrate this festival in their own ways. Tharu community observes as its New Year while the resident in Tarai district mark the day as the festival of baths known as Nahan.

Magar and Chantyal communities joyfully celebrate Maghe Sankranti

The Magar and Chantyal communities in Myagdi district are joyfully celebrating Maghe Sankranti. The Magar community, which is prominent in the district, observes Maghe Sankranti and Saune Sankranti with special significance, while the Chantyal community considers Maghe Sankranti as their most important festival.

“On Maghe Sankranti, it is customary to invite family and relatives to share delicious meals,” said Kham Thapa Magar, Secretary of the Magar Association in the district. “As nature worshippers, the Magar community marks these occasions as transitions in seasons.”

The festival serves as an opportunity for family gatherings, exchanging greetings, and sharing joy.

Prachanda claims current government won’t last long, says no effort needed to topple it

Chair of the main opposition, the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has claimed that the lifespan of the KP Sharma Oli-led government will be short.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Centre Sindhupalchok at Sunkoshi’s Sukute Beach on Tuesday, Dahal stated that the government was formed unnaturally and its actions are already shortening its tenure.

He asserted that the coalition government of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UM, is unstable, and there is no need for parties like the Maoist Centre to make efforts to bring it down.

Tarai-Madhes-centric parties move towards a loose alliance; Amresh Kumar Singh joins discussions

Tarai-Madhes-centric political parties have reached an agreement to form a loose alliance, according to Sharad Singh Yadav, spokesperson for the Janamat Party.

At a meeting held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, representatives from various parties agreed to establish the alliance and outlined plans to refine its objectives and priorities, which may evolve into a broader front. Discussions with party leaders will continue, and a follow-up meeting is planned in two weeks.

Tuesday’s meeting included leaders from Janata Samajwadi Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, Janapragatisheel Party, Rashtriya Mukti Party, and Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party. Independent parliamentarian Amresh Kumar Singh also attended and expressed support for the alliance initiative.

FM Dr Rana holds telephonic talks with Qatar’s minister for Bipin Joshi’s release

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continued its diplomatic efforts for the safe release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali citizen believed to be held captive by Hamas. These efforts follow reports that Hamas is releasing 34 captives, including women, children and the elderly.

Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has been requesting countries, which are reported to be in contact with Hamas and are mediating for a ceasefire, to intensify their initiatives for Joshi’s release.

Today, Dr Rana had a telephonic conversation with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, requesting him to take special initiatives for Joshi’s freedom. She acknowledged Qatar as a longstanding friend of Nepal.

Nepal Rastra Bank proposes new standards to regulate cooperatives

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced a draft of new standards to regulate cooperatives engaged in savings and loan transactions, aiming to ensure transparency and financial discipline in the sector.

This move comes after the government issued a new law on cooperative sector management through an ordinance.

The draft outlines several key provisions to address the challenges faced by the cooperative sector. One major change is the restriction on savings collection, allowing cooperatives to collect savings exclusively from their members.

SEE exam schedule published: Exams to begin on Chaitra 7

The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) for the year 2081 is set to commence on Chaitra 7. The Examination Control Office under the National Examination Board, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, announced the schedule today.

According to the schedule, the exams will begin on Chaitra 7 and conclude on Chaitra 19. The examination will take place from 8 AM to 11 AM each day.

As per the timetable, the first day, Chaitra 7, will feature the Compulsory English exam, followed by Compulsory Nepali on Chaitra 8, Compulsory Mathematics on Chaitra 10, and Compulsory Science on Chaitra 12.
