KATHMANDU: Tarai-Madhes-centric political parties have reached an agreement to form a loose alliance, according to Sharad Singh Yadav, spokesperson for the Janamat Party.
At a meeting held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, representatives from various parties agreed to establish the alliance and outlined plans to refine its objectives and priorities, which may evolve into a broader front. Discussions with party leaders will continue, and a follow-up meeting is planned in two weeks.
Tuesday’s meeting included leaders from Janata Samajwadi Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, Janapragatisheel Party, Rashtriya Mukti Party, and Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party. Independent parliamentarian Amresh Kumar Singh also attended and expressed support for the alliance initiative.
Parties such as Upendra Yadav’s JSP Nepal and Prabhu Sah’s Aam Janata Party are also engaged in discussions to join. However, leaders from Resham Chaudhary’s Nagarik Unmukti Party were absent from the meeting.
The alliance aims to collaborate on common agendas and goals, focusing on regional and national issues affecting the Tarai-Madhes region.
