EC distributes symbols to parties for PR vote



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has distributed election symbols to political parties participating in the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

The Commission registered the political parties on Friday and assigned their respective symbols. According to Assistant Election Officer Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, although 100 parties applied for PR system, several requested the same symbols, resulting in a total of 93 unique election symbols being finalized.

The Commission stated that serial numbers and symbols were allocated based on the proportion of votes received in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election. For newly registered parties, symbols were assigned according to their order of registration.

The first seven symbols determined by the Commission are the number one, the sun, the five-pointed star, the bell, the plow, the umbrella and the loudspeaker. Other election symbols include a plane, a flat platform, a single eye, a bicycle, a bowl, a glass, a stick, an open eye, a hoe, folded hands in greeting, a rooster, a water jug, a paw print, a well, a head, a sickle and star, a lotus flower, a guitar, a house, a sickle and various other symbols.

The Nepal Sanghiya Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Ekta Party Nepal and Nepal Janajagruti Party have all received the bus as their election symbol. Likewise, the Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal, the Janata Samajwadi Party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal have been assigned the chakki (millstone) symbol.
