UNIPHIN submits memorandum to Health Minister on irregularities in private hospitals

KATHMANDU: The Union of Professional Health and Care Sector Workers in Nepal (UNIPHIN) has submitted a memorandum to Health and Population Minister Dr. Sudha Sharma, raising concerns over growing irregularities and malpractice in private hospitals and medical colleges across Nepal.

UNIFIN representatives highlighted issues including arbitrary fee collection, lack of trained personnel, labor exploitation, contract-based staffing, low salaries, and insufficient benefits.

The memorandum called for strict regulation, protection of health workers, transparency, and fair remuneration to ensure an organized and accountable health sector.

Minister Sharma assured the union that the government would take their demands and suggestions seriously and undertake initiatives for policy reforms. She said, “The contract system and labor exploitation being practiced in hospitals nationwide are no longer acceptable. The ministry will issue directives and guidelines to phase out these practices.”

The UNIPHIN delegation included co-chair Dinesh Pokhrel, Youth Committee Chair Karna Bishwakarma, Treasurer Tej Kadayat, and member Netra Kusuhwal, among others.

UNIPHIN said that it will continue to advocate for health workers’ rights and improved service quality and work with the government to implement concrete system reforms in the future.
