Sudan Gurung urges Election Commission to set up mobile camps for voter registration in Himalayan districts

KATHMANDU: Gen-Z activist Sudan Gurung on Thursday visited the Election Commission to discuss challenges in voter registration in Nepal’s Himalayan districts.

Gurung highlighted that residents in remote and mountainous areas face difficulties accessing voter list services and proposed that the Election Commission set up mobile registration camps to facilitate the collection of voter information.

According to fellow activist Anil Baniya, Gurung met with the commissioners and highlighted issues observed on the Election Commission’s website, as well as the newly launched election portal, urging improvements to make it more informative and effective.

“We have identified difficulties in voter registration in the Himalayan districts. Gurung suggested operating mobile camps and similar initiatives. He also provided recommendations to make the new election portal more organized and efficient,” Baniya told Khabarhub.

Baniya added that the Election Commission assured them it would address the Gen-Z proposals. He also clarified that Gurung’s visit was focused on addressing electoral challenges, not registering a new political party.

Recently, Gurung has been vocal about the government needing to engage in discussions to address Gen-Z demands. He also criticized Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, comparing his approach to that of leaders from the CPN-UML.
