KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has been formally honored with the ceremonial insignia of his office. The insignia was presented to him by Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal at a special program held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Karki officially took command of the Nepal Police on Thursday. He succeeds 32nd IGP Chandra Kuber Khapung, who retired on Wednesday after completing 30 years of service. The Council of Ministers had approved Karki’s appointment as IGP during its meeting on Monday.
After receiving the insignia from Home Secretary Dangal at the ministry, Karki will formally assume office later in the day at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal.
As the 33rd IGP, Karki will lead the Nepal Police until March 31, 2028, overseeing the force for approximately 29 months. His predecessor, Khapung, led the police for 69 days and faced the challenges of destruction and violence associated with the recent Gen-Z movement before retiring.
