Death of Bipin Joshi confirmed; bodies of four hostages to be handed over in first phase

TEL AVIV: The death of Nepali national Bipin Joshi, who had been held captive by the Hamas group in Gaza, has been officially confirmed.

Israeli military spokesperson Brigadier General Ephraim “Effi” Defrin said on Monday afternoon that Hamas has agreed to hand over the bodies of four deceased hostages, including Joshi.

According to reports quoting the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson, Hamas is set to return the bodies of Bipin Joshi, Guy Illouz, Yossi Sharabi, and Daniel Peretz to Israel through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Monday evening.

Earlier, the Israeli army had informed the family of Guy Illouz about his death 56 days after the October 7, 2023 attack. Investigations later found that Yossi Sharabi died when the building where he was being held was struck by an Israeli airstrike.

The cause of Bipin Joshi’s death has not yet been revealed.
